Harlech Biennale 2009
For my project, I was walking the hills in “the wrong shoes. I was exploring the hardship of being in a new place, but being ill equipped for that place. For every walk, I embroidered a pair of shoes. My walks became missions to find somewhere homely and comfortable in an unfamiliar place. Through making this work, and observing the way other artists work, I have learned so much about myself and my own practice.
Overall, this was the most amazing experience for me and I feel privileged to have taken part, at this stage in my career. It was fascinating to observe the variety of working practices used by all the artists, and warmed my heart to see and feel respect for all means of expression, provided they have integrity. The other artists were warm and generous people, and I feel that I have made some lasting friendships. The people of Harlech were friendly and inviting, if a little unsure of why we were there, and the location was fantastic.
