Neil Powell

Synopsis of Research Interests

Over the past three or four years my research outcomes and methodologies have grown to include not only one person/group exhibitions but also curatorial projects and authored texts. Apart from the more high profile public project with Art & Language, such as ‘The Artist Out of Work’ at Museum of Modern Art, New York in 2000, I have also worked with artists as diverse as Lawrence Weiner, Alfredo Jaar and Ian Hamilton Finlay, whose works formed part of the successful curatorial project ‘A Spectre at The Feast’ also in New York.

The above events are symptomatic of my commitment to scholarly research in the fields of both art practice and the critical theory that surrounds it. My studio work has recently been shown in the Netherlands and a recent essay accepted for publication by UBU publishers New York, USA.

My specialist area of research would best be described within the sphere of the linguistic turn in art from the mid 20th Century onwards and of special interest are areas such as Concrete Poetry, Sculpture and Conceptual Art.
