Noddfa - Table Working Statement
My work has as its source specific experiences associated with place/site. At present I am responding to this source by using, the topography of an area, the cultural & linguistic traditions associated with working and living with the land. Through the work I aim to challenge the romantic ideals and ironies that stem from the way we view/perceive and manage these (rural) environments. I work with banal yet sensual materials which are often worked methodically by hand - during this process a change often occurs - simple, but careful choices are made in the making to create visual and associative richness The works make connections between, the familiar and the unexpected, the real and the imagined, the private and the public. Scale and site are crucial to the works as is their association to the body, the works are intensely physical and aim to create a dialogue with the viewer that questions our relationship to place and time - to reflect upon a moment of discovery and understanding.

| Proposal for exhibition Nexo/Toledo 2007
My intention is to produce new, site specific, work which continues a personal investigation into the themes surrounding place /site /environment /nature & culture. It will be necessary to make a site visit to Toledo and the Circulo de Arte de Toledo to facilitate more in depth pre-production visual and theoretical research, in order to define the form of the work Key concerns at present include: The Arab libraries in Toledo (which provided European access to Islamic and Greek writings on Science and agriculture) Toledo as a centre for translation Pilgrimage – Place - Exchange Landscape – Language – Topography Culture – migration – tourism |
